Starting today, mobile phone users in Canada can purchase the Red flavor of the Nexus 5 smartphone on the network of wireless carrier TELUS too, after the phone was made available through other operators in the country not long ago.

The “Bright Red” Nexus 5 model, as TELUS names it, is up for grabs with a price tag of $500 (€327) if purchased contract-free, tough users can also have it on contract, with prices starting at $0 upfront on a TELUS SharePlus Plan (with the signing of a two-year agreement).

Nexus 5 is also available at the wireless carrier in Black, this being the first color version in which it landed on shelves after being officially introduced in Q4 last year.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Nexus 5 is the latest Google phone out there, and that it has a nice range of high-end features to offer to its users.

It was launched as the very first handset in the world to run under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, and it will continue to be one of the first smartphones to receive new OS upgrades, which come straight from Google.

The mobile phone features a 5-inch touchscreen capable of delivering a full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and is powered by a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm.

Moreover, it arrives on shelves with 2GB of RAM inside, for great performance capabilities, as well as with 16GB of internal memory, though it does not feature a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

On the back, the handset sports an 8-megapixel camera, capable of full HD video recording, paired with a 1.3MP front camera, which should prove great when it comes to making video calls while on the go.

“With bigger pixels and light sensors plus a stabilization function, the 8MP camera captures great shots with less blur,” the wireless carrier notes.

Moreover, Nexus 5 is powered by a 2300 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery (it can offer up to 17 hours of talk time or up to 300 hours of standby time), and comes with all the usual connectivity capabilities inside: 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a built-in GPS receiver.

According to TELUS, the smartphone offers support for download speeds of up to 75 Mbps. However, the average speeds will be of only 12-25 Mbps. Nexus 5 measures 137.84 x 69.17 x 8.59 mm and weighs 130 grams.

“Stay ahead of the pack with LTE speeds right out of the box – first Nexus device with LTE,” TELUS notes in the phone’s description. To buy the handset via this wireless carrier, you should head over to this page on its website.
