Red Hat has announced the availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 Beta for all customers and it represents an important update for the branch, bringing quite a few changes and improvements.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 was a very surprising release because the developers finally managed to get a new version out the door that didn't seem to be designed back in 1999.

The desktop upgrade was just one of the numerous added new features, but it was one of the most interesting. They also had working downloads for anyone who wanted to try it, which is something that you don't usually get from Red Hat.

This is, after all, a commercial enterprise and we don't get to use RHEL all that often without a subscription. Trying out new Beta versions is a good way of experiencing the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS, long before it actually reaches a stable release. The download links are hidden behind a registration process, but it's free to register, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 Beta is a true evolution

RHEL brought a ton of new features and the 7.1 branch is improving upon those. All of these modifications will be noticed by the users and they should really feel the differences, especially since it touches stuff like OpenLMI, Identity Management (IdM), Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) Security Guides, performance management, and a lot more.

"Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 is designed to not only meet the demands of today’s modern datacenter but to tackle the next-generation IT requirements of tomorrow. From accelerating application delivery through containerization – to laying a stable foundation for the open hybrid cloud – Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 continues to redefine the enterprise operating system."

"Today, we are pleased to build on the successful launch of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 with the beta availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1, which delivers a number of enhancements and improvements to the world’s leading enterprise Linux platform, with an emphasis on ease-of-use, improved manageability, security, and performance. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 beta also introduces support for POWER8 on IBM Power Systems (based on little endian) and gives customers even more choice on application deployment platforms," is noted in the announcement

The complete release notes can be found in the official announcement. You can also review and purchase the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 Beta distribution from Softpedia. This is a particularly large download and it will take a while to get it up and running.
