The second beta of the upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.0 has arrived bringing a number of updated packages, new kernels and a refreshed installer. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0 Beta 2 is a new step towards the final release, but Red Hat emphasizes that this is still development software and is not to be used in production environment or for performance benchmarking. RHEL 6.0 Beta 1 was released a couple of months ago.

The Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Beta 2 release is now available for download. Beta 2 includes an updated installer, new technologies and resolutions to many issues that were reported earlier in the Beta cycle,” the official announcement read.

The breadth of testing and quality of feedback that we are receiving has been impressive and we are grateful to our user community and our development partners for helping us create a solid enterprise-ready operating system capable of scaling to today's demanding workloads,” it added.

New in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0 Beta 2 is a revamped installer as well as the usual array of application updates. Red Hat encourages testers to do a fresh install, if they had been using the first beta, to put the new installer through its paces. The new beta is being made available through the Red Hat Network (RHN), but, for the first time, it is also available through regular FTP servers. You can also download the DVDs for both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms from the link below.

Red Hat says another beta should be coming in a few weeks time to introduce the updated packages that may arrive in that time. You can read more about the upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0 in the first beta announcement.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0 Beta 2 is available for download here on Softpedia. Remember that this is a beta release and it should not be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only. You won’t be able to upgrade to the final release from a beta install.
