Wireless carrier Sprint is getting ready for the launch of a new flavor of the HTC One smartphone, one dressed up entirely in Red, the company has officially announced today.

The new handset iteration will become available for purchase as soon as tomorrow, with a price tag of $199 (€150) attached to it, with the signing of a two year contract agreement.

The exclusive version of the Android-based smartphone will also sport a new NextRadio interactive FM radio application, which will be deployed to the carrier’s HTC EVO 4G LTE device.

“This deal will allow Sprint to provide the NextRadio service on a broad range of Sprint smartphone devices during the next several years,” the wireless carrier announced.

NextRadio arrives on devices as a free application, enabling users to enjoy interactive radio listening while on the go, while also promising impressive battery savings when compared to other music apps.

“A headset or speaker wire plugged into the 3.5mm stereo audio jack is required and serves as the antenna for the FM radio chip,” Sprint explained.

Users will be able to find radio stations through the NextRadio onscreen guide, which features selections based on music genre, and enables users to choose the station dial position. The software arrives with radio station logos, slogans and programming description as well.

Furthermore, the wireless carrier announced a special deal for users interested in the HTC One and in the new application.

Set to kick off on August 16 (valid through August 30), users will be able to purchase a HTC One and receive another one for free, regardless of the color they opt in for: silver, black or red.

“Our customers already enjoy listening to a variety of music apps on their smartphones, but NextRadio makes it easier than ever to interact with the local radio stations they enjoy listening to in the car virtually anywhere,” said Fared Adib, senior vice president, product development, Sprint.

“Marking another innovation milestone for Sprint, our partners at NextRadio are transforming the FM radio listening experience by allowing users to interact with their favorite radio shows by calling or messaging directly from their smartphone.”
