Red Faction III Confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

- THQ tries to bring back to life the beloved franchise

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

The first game in the series was a real hit since most of the gamers loved to play the Mars-based first person shooter (FPS). The sequel was launched nearly 5 years ago but it did not manage
to be as successful as its little brother was. Now it is time for us to get ready to give it a go with Red Faction III, which has been finally and officially announced.

Even though hints about a resuscitation of the franchise started to be heard months ago in some conference calls, now the word "Red Faction III" has been said. In a conference call, as well. Strange to know that, since most of the publishers or developers prefer to use press releases, TV ads, naked chicks, wanted posters... well, maybe THQ – because they will take care of the game – plan to rock the marketing world with some new types of ads.

THQ CEO Brian Farrell said: "We continue to strengthen our product development capabilities to support our long-term strategy of creating new owned intellectual properties. We look forward to launching Frontlines: Fuel of War at the end of this month. In fiscal 2009, we are well positioned for increased sales and profitability with strong owned intellectual properties such as Red Faction and Saints Row and well-known licensed franchises including WWE, UFC, Disney/Pixar and Nickelodeon."

For now, the details regarding the new title are scarce, but Farrell promised more information to come in the following weeks. He only said that the game will be developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, as well as PC systems and that, as everybody expected, it will bring back the interactive environments that will be even more fun to experience in a next-gen kind of way. Also, Red Faction III is planned for a 2009 fiscal year release, which means that we can expect the game to come anytime from April 2008 to March 2009.
