As technology in consoles and PCs has progressed, it has allowed developers to create brand new things, like destructible environments, in order to make the whole experience of playing a video game much more realistic.

But while a lot of titles boast such things, no series has made it that much a part of its gameplay as Volition's Red Faction franchise. Now, the series is preparing to see its latest iteration being launched, in the form of Red Faction: Guerrilla, which will be a new beginning, open to both old-time fans and new users.

While the game will be released on June 2, Volition and THQ, its publisher, have released the demo for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the title. We've already had a chance to experience the demo and you can read our impressions here. Now, the demo is free to all users who want to experience the power of the GeoMod 2.0 Destruction Engine, which powers the game.

“The press and consumer buzz for Red Faction: Guerrilla continues to build, as gamers prepare for a new standard in open-world, destruction-based game-play,” Kevin Kraff, vice president of worldwide marketing, THQ, said. “The single-player demo will give consumers an exciting taste of what the full game will offer on June 2nd.”

The demo consists of only one elaborate mission, but will surely impress a lot of people and make them pre-order the game. One will play as freedom fighter Alec Mason, who needs to hijack machines called Walkers from the garages of the Earth Defense Force. In their path, they will encounter some pretty heavy resistance and a lot of buildings and objects, all of which can be easily destroyed. The demo is now available for download on the Xbox Live Marketplace and on the PlayStation Store.
