Red Dead is a permanent franchise for Take-Two and Evolve might join it

Take-Two Interactive, the publishing partner of Rockstar Games, has once again hinted at a new entry in the Red Dead series, after the cult classic Redemption, while talking about franchise plans for Evolve, the upcoming co-op shooter from Turtle Rock.

Rockstar Games has delighted fans with many great titles over the years and it has also delivered a lot of different franchises, from its main money-maker Grand Theft Auto, to various other series like Red Dead, Bully, or Midnight Club.

Unfortunately, in recent years, the studio has focused only on the recently launched Grand Theft Auto 5, while declining to talk at all about any of its other projects.

Now, the studio's publishing partner, Take-Two Interactive, has once again outlined its strategy regarding franchises, which is to deliver higher quality, not constant new releases.

"The risk of just [releasing more games] is that you end up just bulking up your release schedule and that isn't really what consumers want. Consumers want better, not more," Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick said, via GameSpot.

"So our selective approach, which we've taken since '07 I think has paid off. Now, we have gotten more by taking that approach; we've launched one new successful franchise every year and I would like to keep doing that particularly because I talk about permanent franchises, but not everything is going to be a permanent franchise."

While highlighting the permanent franchises, Zelnick included Red Dead, potentially confirming that a sequel was going to appear sooner or later from Rockstar.

"I pretty much know the ones that I can assure you are permanent. It's obvious that GTA is a permanent franchise as long as we keep delivering this incredible quality; it seems quite obvious that Red Dead is a permanent franchise, again with the same caveat, or Borderlands, for example, and NBA and others," Zelnick added.

What’s more, the Take-Two boss also emphasized that the upcoming Evolve, a cooperative first-person shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, also has a chance to become a franchise, if it performs well enough to warrant a sequel.

"But not everything is going to be a permanent franchise. We can do very well even if it's not. I would like to see us grow with a couple more great franchises in the next couple years and we're launching Evolve; we have very high hopes for that."

It's possible that Rockstar and Take-Two might confirm a new Red Dead at E3 2014 next month or will just take their time and announce it when it's closer to an eventual release.
