Video game publisher Take Two has highlighted the overall sales of its Red Dead Redemption title, saying that it has managed to sell more than 11 million units since it was launched during May 2010.

The game was created by the Rockstar studio in San Diego and was designed to be a new franchise that Take Two could call upon in order to keep sales and profits up in the years when the Grand Theft Auto series does not have a full release.

The 11 million copies sold include the stand alone disk of the Undead Nightmare content, which was also launched during 2010, and the company says that the other downloadable content for the game has also done well.

Red Dead Redemption has also been well reviewed and got the Game of the Year award at the well regarded Game Developers Choice Awards.

The game managed to capture the Western feel that has not been very successful in the game of video gaming and the developers managed to marry some compelling gameplay with a strong central character and a gripping narrative.

At the same time the company has said that Duke Nukem Forever has done well for Take Two despite the fact that most video game fans have seen the game as being a sort of failure.

Strauss Zelnick, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Take Two, has said, “Despite its disappointing reviews, Duke Nukem Forever was profitable for Take-Two.”

The company has not said exactly how much the game sold and what profit it made on it but the game probably failed to justify the costs that were associated with it over the 14 year development cycle.

Take Two has already confirmed that, despite the bad reception for Duke Nukem Forever, it is interested in further developing the intellectual property.
