Rockstar hasn't forgotten about its popular Red Dead Redemption third-person shooter, as the Western game is currently hosting a quadruple XP weekend on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, while a brand new downloadable add-on might also be released for it.

Red Dead Redemption earned a huge amount of accolades for its developer and publisher, Rockstar, and is still quite popular a year after its release.

In order to properly celebrate and get even more people in the game, Rockstar has just kicked off a special quadruple XP weekend, during which players earn four times the amount of experience while playing online modes.

"In honor of America's birthday and in keeping with its celebratory traditions of spectacle and excess, we're unleashing the first instance of Red Dead Redemption 4XP for multiplayers all around the world on both PS3 and Xbox 360 this July 4th Weekend," Rockstar revealed.

"Beginning by 12:01AM Eastern this Friday July 1st and running until 11:59 PM Eastern on Monday July 4th, all online multiplayer modes including Free Roam and Undead Overrun in Undead Nightmare will earn you quadruple the experience points during this extended holiday weekend."

What's more, Rockstar confirmed, through its Twitter account, that the game might also see the release of another downloadable add-on in the near future.

Red Dead Redemption saw the release of quite a few multiplayer-oriented DLC, as well as the single-player focused Undead Nightmare, last year. Since then, the company did launch special items that were available just to those who pre-ordered the game, but nothing else was heard.

Now, it seems that Rockstar still has plans for its Western shooter, so keep your eyes peeled for a more official announcement in the following weeks.
