Red Dead Redemption is set to receive a batch of free downloadable content in September, with Rockstar, its developer and publisher, announcing that the game, launched back in 2010, will see some new things be released for it, completely free.

Red Dead Redemption was released over a year ago, but the open-world Western simulator is still quite popular with players, largely because of its big and varied multiplayer offerings, where players can do anything from just riding along in the open world with friends, to shooting each other up or just play various mini-games like poker, liar's dice and more.

Now, after some pretty silent months, what with Rockstar being busy releasing L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption is once again getting some love, as the company confirmed that a new batch of free downloadable content is coming.

The Myths and Mavericks pack will feature new characters that have been requested by the community, including the famous Landon Ricketts, who you can check out in the photo above, as well as new multiplayer locations.

"Today we can confirm the title for you: the Myths and Mavericks Bonus Pack will feature new fan-favorite multiplayer characters by popular demand (including a certain grizzled ol' gunslinger as pictured above) as well as new multiplayer locations for players of Deathmatch, Grab the Bag, Gang matches and other popular online modes to get busy in."

Also, Rockstar confirmed that an update for Red Dead Redemption will be released in the lead up to the DLC's launch, in order to return the original Undead Overrun multiplayer settings, so players will once again be able to experience the great fun that appeared with the release of the Undead Nightmare pack last year for the game.

Expect Red Dead Redemption to get the free Myths and Mavericks pack in September on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live online services, for free.
