Developer Rockstar has announced that its Western based open world title Red Dead Redemption will be getting a Double XP Weekend to coincide with both the Halloween celebrations and the launch of the downloadable content, called Undead Nightmare Pack.

The Double XP Weekend is set to start at 1 PM Eastern Time on Friday, October 29, which is 6 PM in GMT terms, and will end at 11:59 PM Eastern time on Sunday.

The Undead Nightmare DLC pack is now out and the weekend is the perfect excuse for gamers to see what's new in it and try out the two new game modes.

Undead Overrun is a last stand time of game where four players must work together as they are assaulted by ever increasing waves of zombies.

Land Grab is based around the free roam mode and allows a team of player to hold locations in a town against attackers with the one doing most of the killing getting the lion's share of points.

The Undead Nightmare pack introduces zombie versions of animals, alongside more mythical ones, like El Chupacabra, and there are also new zombie oriented weapons, like the blunderbuss, that can actually use zombie bits to kill other zombies.

Red Dead Redemption was initially launched on the PlayStation 3 on Sony and on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft on May 18 in North America and managed to be one of the best game of the spring, topping the NPD Group released sales figures for both May and June.

Rockstar has sought to extend player interested in the Western game by putting out both free and paid DLC packages all through summer.

It's not clear whether more content is planned after the Undead Nightmare pack or whether the team at Rockstar will be moving to work on the inevitable sequel full time.
