I can't stop smiling when I think about the view offered by a red BlackBerry Pearl. I can't say for certain why but it actually makes me feel amused and you can be sure it's not just me because other people from our offices told me they have the same feeling.

It must be something about the toy-like figure given by the red color, in the case of people with not many technical knowledge of what this handset is about, or about having a sensation of deja-vu and the name of an American mobile phone manufacturer showing up amidst the thoughts circulating one's head when looking at this device.

Yeah, I'm talking about Motorola and I'm talking about this company because they too launched a huge number of different color variations of the same device, a policy which in the end seemed to work in their benefit because, this way, they managed to keep alive the RAZR name, one of their most successful brands (if not the most successful).

Despite tweaking the handsets' names a little (anyone remembering about the slim cellphones going around with KRZR and RIZR monikers on their case?), they have not changed very much in the spec sheets but the phones still got sold in huge numbers.

If you ask yourself if RIM will go for the same approach, the answer is definitely yes. Who could blame them though? What sane phone manufacturer wouldn't color the devices he throws on the mobile market with the craziest colors ever invented by the human hand (or mind, or whatever you may think of)?

Why not make them gold plated and call them a Special Edition? I would do it, you would probably do it, heck even my grandma would do it if she would own a mobile manufacturing company and would know what a cellphone is :).

To make it short, the red BlackBerry Pearl is heading towards Cingular's network so, if you are one of their customers and a red hood is your clothing of choice, you will probably jump up for joy.

If it's not your case, at least you'll have the chance to spot every one that bought such a cellphone in an instant even in the most crowded places.
