The original “Evil Dead” film from Sam Raimi was billed “the ultimate experience in grueling horror,” so it makes sense for fans, myself included, to sneer at word of a remake, under the helm of Fede Alvarez. I stand corrected now.

The first official, red band trailer for the remake is now out and you can see it in full below. *Please note that extreme discretion is recommended as it includes gruesome, violent images and graphic language that might offend.

Without a doubt, Alvarez is aiming to offer fans a movie that will live up to the original.

The trailer includes plenty of gore and blood, lots of cutting and slashing and a dose of self-mutilation as well, possession, the all-too-famous book and chainsaw (yes, the chainsaw!), all enveloped in an atmosphere other horror films try in vain to replicate.

“Evil Dead” will be out on April 12, 2013.
