The strategy genre of games has always been a very crowded one, as a lot of titles claimed to bring the definitive RTS (Real Time Strategy) experience to the players. But among these titles, a few stood out from the crowd, with PC gamers praising the Command & Conquer franchise for its great series, like Tiberium or Red Alert, and intricate story.

With Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, launched just before the holiday season, Electronic Arts, the owner of the C&C IP (Intellectual Property) really delivered a solid experience, bringing back the ingredients that made Red Alert such a popular series – the great gameplay, the tongue-in-cheek approach to the story and the incredible Live Action cutscenes with a star-studded Hollywood cast.

Although the game didn't really register the huge sales EA was expecting, the company hasn't lost hope in it and recently announced that it would release a standalone expansion entitled Red Alert 3: Uprising. It will feature three campaigns, designed for each of the factions, the Soviet side, the Allies and the Empire of the Rising Sun, a bonus one, which follows the origins of Yuriko Omega, the psionic commando unit of the Empire of the Rising Sun. Also, as a new feature, a Commander’s Challenge mode will be available, allowing for players to test their skills against other commanders from across the world in 50 unique levels consisting of different challenges.

“Uprising is a game that in many ways reflects the feedback we have gotten from the Command & Conquer community,” said Amer Ajami, senior producer at EA Los Angeles. “We’re giving gamers more of what they want – more of the fast, fluid and fun gameplay, more of the story we began to tell in Red Alert 3 and more cutscenes featuring top-notch Hollywood talent. At the same time, we’re excited we’re going to be able to bring new things to the mix, including new units and the Commander’s Challenge, which is a great way for players to hone their skills and get deeper into the combat.”

For the fans of the Live Action cutscenes, it seems that Gemma Atkinson, who played the lovely Lieutenant Eva McKenna, will be reprising her role in this expansion, but not much is known about the other stars who appeared in the original game.

All in all, it seems that this expansion will certainly be a worthy download for any true fan. Look forward to it in March, as no concrete release date has been established yet.
