Old iPods modded into speakers for new iPods

How cool are some old iPods transformed in miniature, portable speakers for the new generation of iPod players? If you're having troubles picturing such an invention, take a closer look at these hacked/modded old iPods, which are totally cool. One even cooler guy has invested around $100 in two used and abused old iPods, and has granted them a new existence, virtually reincarnating them in the shape of stereo speakers. If you're the kind of person who likes DIY more than the mas-produced gear, and are looking for some speakers for your MP3 player, hesitate no more and start ransacking the eBay for old iPods.

Jordan Horwich felt like he could do better with some unique speakers for his music needs, and decided that simply buying other new ones was too simple and geeky.

Therefore, he took the inner wiring and circuitry from two old iPods, and replaced the remaining space with speakers and a simpler circuitry, to grant him the sonic response he was looking for. And the hardest part in creating the iPod iPod stereo speaker system was not manufacturing it, but finding cheap pieces and having them shipped.

In fact, Jordan himself claims that the overall price of the project could have been even lower than $60, if he could have found cheaper components or traced them locally.

“The total cost ended up around 100 USD for everything. It was mostly the shipping prices that made it so expensive. If I had spent some more time finding cheaper prices, or finding the parts locally, the cost would have been about 60 USD.”

Each cabinet (can we actually call them cabinets?) houses a 2.25'' full-range driver, some basic circuitry, a volume potentiometer, and some capacitors, with everything being fed by an AA battery. It doesn't look like the fancy stuff from China you get on Amazon, but it's fun, unique and... it works just the same. Even more, we're inclined to believe that you'll like a lot the sound of these iPod iPod speakers, if you manufacture them yourself. Nice job, Jordan!

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
