Here is some more good news for Windows Phone users who are always looking to add new features to their devices. For those who might not remember, Microsoft released a Project My Screen application that would allow users to take screenshots of their smartphones.

Well, XDA Developer forum user hks25258 took it even further and added new functionality to the project. In fact, he reversed the already existing Project My Screen application and made it so Windows Phone users can connect their smartphone to a computer via USB and record a video or take screenshots.

The new record video file feature allows Windows Phone users to capture H264/MP4 clips of their handsets. The developer that created this new application even made the source code available on the original thread on the forum.

According to many Windows Phone users who already downloaded and installed the application, My Projection Client now works on most handsets launched by Nokia/Microsoft with two exceptions, the Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520.

It’s unclear whether or not the reason for which the application does not work on the Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520 is the fact that it can’t recognize the resolution, but we hope other devs or the original creator of the application will fix this issue sooner rather than later.

In order to take advantage of what the application has to offer, Windows Phone users will have to download and install the My Projection Client application and connect their phones to the PC.

As soon as the smartphone is detected by the PC, simply open the MyProjectClient.exe file, choose Goto Device and you should see your Windows Phone handset listed there.

In the next window popping up on your screen, choose to allow the application to be allowed to make screen projection. In case your phone is not detected by the application, you should make sure Project My Screen app is installed as well.

It’s also worth mentioning that while this open source project works just like Microsoft’s application, through USB connection, users can’t interact with the devices from the desktop. Basically, it doesn’t have support for mouse control, but this can be fixed in the future update.

Although there are some features missing from this open project, this is one application that Windows Phone users may want to keep an eye on. For more details on the My Projection Client app, make sure you visit the original thread on the XDA Developer forum.
