PhoneTap, an application that lets you record your outgoing phone calls, giving you a record of who you talked to and what was said, is now available for download through Apple’s iTunes App Store.

Independent developer Clever Panda LLC has released PhoneTap 1.0 for iPhone to allow users to record outgoing phone calls right from their device.

Competitive solutions require bulky external hardware or a monthly subscription, says Clever Panda, yet PhoneTap requires only an iPhone and is purely a software solution.

“PhoneTap is the iPhone app that lets you record outgoing phone calls right from your phone,” the company says on its website. “No additional hardware or equipment is necessary.”

According to the developer, any iPhone owner can download the app and begin recording calls instantly.

“PhoneTap keeps track of the date, time, and duration of each of your outgoing calls, giving you a reliable record of who you talked to and what was said,” Clever Panda explains.

PhoneTap includes 20 free minutes of airtime, with additional airtime being purchasable from within the application through the user's iTunes account.

Unfortunately for those who were hoping to use PhoneTap to expose someone for the jerks that they are, PhoneTap plays both parties a notice that the call is recorded at the start of each call.

In all fairness, it wouldn’t have been approved by Apple had it not played a warning that the call was being tapped.

However, there’s still one neat feature we haven’t yet mentioned: you can e-mail a recording as an .mp3 file to any recipient as soon as you’ve ended the conversation.

According to Clever Panda LLC, the key features of PhoneTap are:

- Records outgoing phone calls made within the application - Share recordings via e-mail instantly - Includes 20 minutes of recording time; additional airtime available for in-app purchase - Sleek, modern design - Integrates seamlessly with iPhone address book - No bulky hardware or equipment needed.

PhoneTap is compatible with iPhone only and requires iOS 4.1 or later.
