Ericsson just completed T-Mobile Germany network modernization in record time. Whether it was intended, or things just ran better than planned, it's admirable just the same. T-Mobile has a new EDGE-compliant GSM radio network in record time.

No wonder that Ericsson
managed to finish the job earlier. The company holds many years of experience behind them to drive some rapid decisions and get things done in time. Not only that, but the network modernization was finished three months in advance, much faster than anyone expected.

Ericsson takes great pride in its accomplishment and they have the right to boast. The company brought T-Mobile its solution for EDGE technology, also reducing CO2 emissions and costs, while also bringing the most evolved network solutions tho this operator. With this partnership, T-Mobile saved a lot of money and time, while also receiving a three moth bonus.

"A system swap during commercial operations is like open-heart surgery. We appreciate the fact that, together with our partner Ericsson, we were able to finish the project three months ahead of the original schedule. For us this was uncharted territory. There has not been a similar project of this size before", stated Günther Ottendorfer, Chief Technology Officer at T-Mobile Deutschland.

The new network provides fast mobile-internet access with bandwidth four times that of ISDN. Users also benefit from EDGE data capabilities and improved network quality. Ericsson's job was that of upgraded more than half of T-Mobile's radio network, replacing more than 10,000 base stations in seven federal states.

All this was done with the network operating commercially and without subscribers noticing any deterioration in services they received. The new EDGE-compliant GSM radio network allows the use of mobile broadband applications, while also reducing about 30 percent less power.
