The Tor-based service was officially launched only one week ago

At the beginning of February, Utopia Marketplace, a new Tor-based underground marketplace similar to the notorious Silk Road, was officially launched. It appears the Dutch National Police have already shut it down.

Those who try to access the website via TOR are greeted with a message that reads, “This hidden service has been seized by the Dutch National Police.”

DeepDotWeb reports that both the site and its forums have been shut down. Dutch authorities have not made any statements yet.

However, operators of Silk Road have already posted a message saying that all Utopia customers are welcome to join.

Silk Road administrators warn Utopia members to change their credentials if they’ve been using the same username and password for any other marketplace, since the information might have been compromised.

I’ll update this post if more information becomes available.

Update. The Dutch Public Prosecutor confirms that Utopia has been shut down by police. No additional details are available at this time [via Tweakers].
