Video game publisher Electronic Arts has announced, at its Gamescom 2011 press conference, that it is working on a new street football video game linked to the FIFA series which will take its inspiration from the way the street game is being played by amateurs all over the world.
FIFA Street is set to be launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft at some point during 2012.
The main system of the rebooted franchise will be something called Street Ball Control, which is specifically designed to show how different playing football within urban areas is from playing it on wide open pitches.
The game will emphasize dribbling and tricks and will try to show gamers the tension that builds up when two skilled players are facing off against each other on small streets.
FIFA Street will be more responsive than the main football simulation from EA Sports and the developers are boasting that there are more than 50 skill moves that gamers can learn and then use to get past adversaries.
The game will have 35 real world locations for matches and both real world street footballers and players from the biggest clubs in the world can be used in player created teams.
The range of events will include both Futsal tournaments and one on one matches, alongside a number of online features supplemented by a social system.
Matt Bilbey, who is a vice president and the general manager of football games at EA Sports, has said, “This is the first time our award-winning FIFA development team is creating a street football game, and we are going to deliver a level of authenticity never before seen in this genre, along with amazing gameplay.”
He added, “FIFA Street will appeal to new fans that are looking for a unique, fun football experience, and long-time FIFA fans looking for an authentic street football experience with the level of quality that they know and love from the FIFA franchise.”
