Plenty of stuff happened in 2011, some good, some bad. It all ended up online, on Twitter and YouTube. Yet, among the disasters, the revolutions, the heartwarming viral videos and the talented people making it big on YouTube, there was one video, one song and one person that rose above.
Chances of you not hearing it at least once are slim, Rebecca Black's Friday. The song was so bad, it was catchy. The lyrics were so mundane, they resonated with everyone.
The video was so bad, people wondered if it was on purpose. The entire premise was so artificial, it felt genuine. And it had a black dude rapping, wondering what day it is and looking at his watch.
It could be said that Friday so perfectly represented 2011, social media and YouTube, it was impossible for it not to be the most viewed video of the year. So, who better then to present YouTube's look back at the most popular videos of the year than Rebecca Black?
