Last week, a man by the name Anthony Douglas was allowed to walk free out of a prison in the West Midlands in the United Kingdom after being mistaken for an inmate who had completed his sentence and was expecting to be released.

Information shared with the public says the incident occurred on Wednesday and that Anthony Douglas was accidentally released from the HMP Hewell facility because his surname is the same as that of the prisoner who was supposed to be freed.

Unfortunately for Anthony Douglas, he ran out of luck shortly after being freed. Thus, guards at this facility in the United Kingdom soon figured out that they had released the wrong man and, come Thursday, the inmate was back behind bars.

It is unclear whether or not Anthony Douglas will be made to pay for the fact that, despite knowing that he was not supposed to be released, he kept his mouth shut and allowed guards to escort him out of prison. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.

“A prisoner from Hewell was released in error on July 2. The police were notified immediately and he was recaptured on July 3,” a spokesperson for HMP Hewell told the press in an interview, as cited by Mirror.

“An investigation by a senior governor has been launched. We take public protection extremely seriously and this type of incident is a very rare but regrettable occurrence,” the spokesperson went on to comment on the accidental release of Anthony Douglas.
