Six months after its official release, the popular RealPlayer for Android application has been updated. RealNetworks, the team behind the RealPlayer, suggests that the update is based entirely on feedback from users.

The updated version of RealPlayer for Android offers an easy way to control and manage music, videos and photos.

Unlike the Symbian version, RealPlayer for Android can be used as a Gallery and music player at the same time. RealPlayer supports a wide range of multimedia formats including MPEG-4, H.264, Mp3 and JPEG.

“RealPlayer engineers created the original version because they identified room in the Android space for a more comprehensive media management solution. They quickly began a grassroots development effort and quietly released RealPlayer for Android. To date, the app has been downloaded more than one million times,” stated RealNetworks.

The most important change is the overhauled user interface, which offers users an enhanced multimedia experience.

Some of the application's new features are detailed below:

- Redesigned home screen; - A widget allowing playback from the home screen; - Enhanced graphics; - A feature for videos and song removal; -  An improved way to select directories for music, videos and photos; - Landscape mode for music playback; - Music playback by directory folder; - Quick way to hide video status bar; - Selection for video aspect ratio; - Removal of the roulette wheel; - Support for music playlists playback.

“We have always considered this app to be a collaborative work-in-progress and appreciate your feedback that has led us to this upgrade. We hope you’ll check out the latest version of the app, rate it and let us know what else we can do to improve your RealPlayer experience,” concluded RealNetworks.

RealPlayer is compatible with all devices running Android OS 1.6 or newer and is available as a free download from Android Market.
