RealPlayer, one of the best media players for Mac, giving broadband users near-instant playback of RealVideo and RealAudio, has been updated to version 11.0.0 Build 884. Changes include usability enhancements, as well as bug fixes. The software is free to download and install on almost any Mac.

RealPlayer has recently added a new feature called TurboPlay. This allows the program to perform “near-instant playback,” according to RealNetworks, by dramatically reducing the time it takes to load or buffer a clip prior to playback. This is achieved through “the intelligent utilization” of a broadband connection with the respective available bandwidth.

Mac users have it their way with direct radio tuner access to 1,700 radio stations from around the world, categorized by genre and location. According to the makers, the industry's best radio selection is available through RealPlayer. A SuperPass subscription service is also available for Mac users to get news, entertainment and sports content immediately. RealPlayer runs natively, meaning it works just like your other Mac application, and is able to play any QuickTime file as well. Changes occurring with the release of RealPlayer 11.0.0 Build 884 are listed below.

· Addressed an issue with connectivity on some wireless networks.

· On setup, a shortcut to the RealPlayer Downloader is added to the same folder as the RealPlayer application.

· Dragging multiple files onto the RealPlayer adds the files to the playlist window instead of opening multiple players.

· Added a preference to the Downloader to enable/disable Advanced Video Detection.

· Fixed an issue with the Downloader list on systems with multiple user accounts.

· Fixed an issue with streaming UDP transport through a transparent RTSP proxy.

· Fixed an issue with streaming reconnect when tunneling RTSP through an HTTP proxy.

· Fixed an issue where an unescaped colon results in a truncated url.

· Addressed a networking issue that prevented the player from automatically switching from Multicast to UDP transport for live webcasts.
