RealPlayer, the multimedia player that announced a revolutionary function to include support for YouTube vids is now intending to fight against the online video sharing service as it signed a deal with video search engine blinkx. As this is one of the largest online video search engines, RealPlayer will include a search box embedded into its interface that will allow users to search and download not protected clips straight from the application. According to BigMouthMedia, blinkx currently owns up to 12 million hours of online videos so it would be a great addition to the famous multimedia player.

"The new RealPlayer will give people the ability to easily download non-DRM protected videos from thousands of sites, so giving our users access to a best-in-class video search experience is critical," said Jeff Chasen, vice president of RealPlayer for RealNetworks according to BigMouthMedia. "By teaming up with blinkx, we now deliver their powerful video search engine directly to our users."

Obviously, this is also a major hit for the Google Video service that was recently promoted to the search engine rank, allowing users to search clips on the entire Internet. "Through blinkx's patented speech and pattern recognition technologies, we will be offering their millions of users the most advanced tool for finding videos online," Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CEO of blinkx, said for the same source.

It's quite difficult to say if the users are attracted by these users because I saw numerous complaints over the RealPlayer technology. However, it is still an important threat for the Mountain View company as more and more companies are teaming up against its famous solution. "Obviously there is going to be more and more video online but technologically it is quite challenging to search through it all. It is not the same as reading words off the page," the blinkx CEO also mentioned.
