War games have always been extremely popular, especially Real Time Strategy titles showcasing the importance of strategic thinking and placing the player in the role of leading various kinds of armies against his/her enemies. Almost all such games end with the victory of the player, offering a great dose of high quality entertainment.
Such a game is Namco's Real Time Conflict: Shogun Empires, released on November 23, 2005 in North America. It aims at bringing a high quality strategy experience to owners of Nintendo's extremely popular DS handheld console, which took the world by storm through its wide library of games.
The release is set in feudal Japan, as its name suggests, specifically during the chaos that dominated certain moments of that era. It lets the players create his/her own army filled with unique units and then, obviously, lead them to victory over the course of many battles, all of which employ a unique touch screen control scheme by using the stylus of the DS.
“Real Time Conflict: Shogun Empires offers a control scheme and gameplay similar to PC real-time strategy games,” said Namco's Jeff Lujan. “Fans of the genre will find a tremendous amount of content to enjoy with a familiar presentation and interface, while those unfamiliar with real-time strategy will be able to enjoy the planning, tactics and army building for the first time in the palm of their hands.”
HINTS
Army grouping
From the start of the game up until the end, the enemy always spreads troops out. If you try this at the beginning of the game, your army will be destroyed. Instead, when selecting units in battle, send the entire army together. They will help each other fight and live through the battles. Always send your army as one large team to obliterate the enemy.
Upgrades
When upgrading, always upgrade the Archers first. The Archer will attack from a distance. First, upgrade Archer Health, then Archer Attack/Power, and finally Archer Speed. When your Archer's abilities are maxed, they will do the most damage and kill enemies with little to no casualties. Then, focus on the abilities of the Spear-Men. After them, strengthen your Swordsmen.
