Electronic Arts’ Real Racing 3, one of the most popular racing titles in the iTunes App Store today, has received a major new update that includes everything from new cars and customization options to all-new challenges and even support for external controllers.

Real Racing 3 version 2.1.0 is the newest update to the massively popular iOS racing game from Electronic Arts.

Featuring online multiplayer and jaw-dropping graphics (all without a price tag if you’re not too pretentious), it’s hard not to see why Real Racing 3 is one of the most downloaded games of its kind on iPhone and iPad.

Following today’s update, even more people will start enjoying the title, including those gamers who never got the hang of those tilt controls. That’s right, starting today, Real Racing 3 can be played with a physical controller, as long as the player is running iOS 7.

Further down the list is a new customization module that allows players to change rims, tweak ride height, and apply vinyls.

The new Photo Mode lets you capture exciting moments from your races and even apply some filters. Sharing options are also included.

Joining the lineup of super-cars are the new Aston Martin’s DB9, Vanquish, and V12 Vantage S, which “bring power and performance matched with exhilarating design,” according to EA. Other new stuff includes a new All Star Vendetta Series and Gold achievements.

“Hit the track in personalised style in this massive car customization update! Give each and every one of 80+ vehicles a visual overhaul, then share with your friends and rivals via the new Photo Mode. To top it all off, Aston Martin has arrived to the delight of luxury sports cars enthusiasts everywhere!” says Electronic Arts.

As usual, the developer asks players to contact EA at its support site (http://www.firemonkeys.com.au/support) with any issues they may have. Supported languages include English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

If you’re not looking to play the game with a physical controller, you can actually download Real Racing 3 on any iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad that has iOS 5 installed.

In accordance with this software requirement, the game should be supported even on iPhone 3GS devices, but there’s no guarantee you’ll have a good experience with the game on such old hardware. iPhone 4 is probably the minimum spec for an optimum gaming experience.
