Apple doesn’t have to wait for Corning to finish prototyping its Willow Glass

Apple doesn’t have to wait for Corning to perfect its Willow Glass technology to equip one or more of its products with flexible glass. LG Display is already prepared to supply the parts to the Cupertino giant, according to a statement provided by CEO Han Sang-beom.

Korea’s LG Display is known to be a major supplier of displays to Apple.

The company confirmed recently that it will soon be able to mass produce bendable OLED displays which Apple will be free to adopt in its next generation of products, including the iPhone 6 and the rumored iWatch.

“We will be able to release flexible OLED screens for smartphones sometime in the latter half of next year,” said Han.

The LG CEO didn’t name Apple or any other companies as clients, but knowing that the Cupertino iPhone maker is its biggest customer, it’s fairly easy to assume that much of that flexible glass will be going into iProducts relatively soon.

Samsung is also making bendable glass, according to The Korea Times. However, given the rocky relationship between Apple and this electronics supplier, there’s a good chance Apple will pass on any of their offers.

Apple has been rumored to be preparing a smart-watch that acts as an iPhone companion in the near future.

Reportedly developed by a team of 100 engineers, designers and all sorts of technicians who have knowhow in wearable computing, the iWatch (as the media refers to it) could be the next big thing from Apple.

Investors are alarmed at Apple’s 40% share decline in the past few months, and everyone is waiting for Tim Cook to unveil something new (including a TV product) to re-ignite shareholders’ confidence that the company can still invent new categories of devices, just like the late Steve Jobs used to do.
