Time for iPhone fans to say what they want in the next major update

Earlier this month, we talked about the possibility of iPhone OS 3.2 emerging sometime soon. Although there is little chance to see it released by New Year’s Eve, Softpedia readers have expressed their thoughts in regards to what it should include. Just like with those eagerly expecting Mac OS X 10.6.3 to launch, opinions among iPhone fans are divided, but certainly noteworthy.

Note: The comments mentioned below are extracted from a wider thread of comments posted by Softpedia readers in response to “iPhone OS 3.2 Wish List - Post Here” added to our website on the 8th of December 2009, 10:23 GMT. For a view of every comment in part, see the respective article here.

Commenter Lawrence wrote, “I would love to see an improved camera app. Like other phones the iphone should be able to change the color of pictures and the iphone should be able to create albums right from the phone. I would also like to see iPhotoboth on the iphone.” Brad would like the iPhone OS “to notice that there [are] youtube videos on a page [and to] open [them] in its player.” He also wants Flash support in iPhone OS 3.2, like many other commenters wrote.

“I would honestly be happy if they gave the OS UI a revamp,” Jason writes. “Possibly giving us the ability set a background wallpaper instead of that black screen, create folders to organise apps instead of having them spread across multiple screens and lastly, the ability [to] create/purchase custom SMS tones or at least give us new ones because they have been the same since day 1. [...] Those are the main ones i want, otherwise i am pretty happy with the iPhone as [it] is,” he concludes.

Inevitably, one person suggests everyone should just jailbreak their devices to benefit from all the lacking features they mentioned in their comments. LaLa’s exact words are, “To all the above, jailbreak your iphone and you'll have all the above requested already!”

Reader xiruc would also like to see some UI tweaks, as well as “something that allows a minimum of multitasking, such as opening more multiple instances of some applications such as the e-mail (if not, let's try to fuse the contents of two e-mails into a new e-mail, and see how many 'close/open/copy to a different application' you have to do),” he writes. “WebOS has nice gestures that I imagine they can save a lot of time, some sort of gesture-based shortcuts, could be very useful,” his suggestion goes.

Many would also like custom ringtones for stuff like incoming text messages, as reader zach claims. Reader SomeGuy agrees, adding that, “Custom 'ringtones' [should be activated] for things other than phone calls (email, SMS, MMS).”

With no sign of iPhone OS 3.2 dropping any time soon, readers are encouraged to keep bugging Apple with their requests. Maybe if there are enough voices singing the same tune, Apple will hear.
