The first days of April are littered with jokes, but among them there are some true informations. After a long wait of almost ten years, Reaction Beta 1.0 is now available for download.

According to the developers, Reaction is a port of the classic Action Quake 2 (AQ2) mod which in turn it should have been "total conversion mod" for Quake III Arena, with a lot more emphasis on realism.

Boomstick Studios said that Reaction is built by combining the original RQ3 mod code with the improved “ioquake3” engine.

There are some minor problems with the release, as it was pointed by the developers. The Linux binaries that are provided are compiled on a Fedora 16 system which has a newer glibc than most server platforms.

A few more details about this problem can be found in the official announcement.
