The developer might end up going for 30fps

Naughty Dog, the developer of the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, once again emphasizes that it's really hard to reach 60fps with the new action-adventure experience on the PS4, and that it could end up deciding to abandon the goal and just limit the game to 30fps.

Uncharted 4 is one of the big PS4 exclusives of the year, and millions of franchise fans are quite eager to see on what adventures developer Naughty Dog will take protagonist Nathan Drake this time around.

Among the many details shared by the studio concerning the new game is the goal to deliver a 60fps framerate, particularly after the success the team reached with The Last of Us Remastered last year, when it amazed PS4 owners with the fast framerate, especially when compared to the 30fps mode also included in the title.

60fps is hard to achieve with Uncharted 4

Now, once again Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann talks to GameInformer, via DualShockers, and emphasizes that it was very hard to reach 60fps with The Last of Us Remastered and that it's even harder when working on Uncharted 4 right now, given its other ambitious aspects like great visuals and cutscenes.

"It was really hard on The Last of us Remastered. And that’s a game we have finished. And we know exactly what the end result needs to look like. And here we’re trying to push the boundaries of what this game can look, and do real time cutscenes… And trying to do sixty is really hard," he explains.

The main goal is to make a great experience

Druckmann also emphasizes that the main goal is just to make a great game, and this supersedes the 60fps objective, so fans shouldn't be too surprised if it might get reduced to 30fps once the title reaches the end of its development process.

"The objective for us is just to make the best experience. Right now we’re trying to push the look. And then we’ll see where we’re at, and we’ll reassess. We’re constantly making choices throughout production though. What’s going to make the game feel best, and look its best," he adds.

Given other recent statements, it's quite likely that Uncharted 4 might not reach 60fps once it launches this fall. Even so, don't expect any concrete statement until later in the year.
