Varia Games has started the crowdfunding effort for its upcoming Metroid and Megaman-inspired 2D platformer, ReVeN.

The game is designed to evolve the shooter/platformer genre, bringing role-playing elements to the table, similar to the ones found in Crysis and the Deus Ex series.

The action takes place in the 28th century, on the beautiful alien planet XR-Keres, whose outer beauty hides the ominous terrors that await within its depths.

Players will explore said depths and will uncover the many secrets of the planet, solving the mystery of what happened to the Nexum Station terraforming colony, by assuming control of SyReks, an advanced autonomous android.

ReVeN's gameplay revolves around the Energy Divergence Module, a device which allows players to divert energy to any of the four core parts of the android's body, weapons, sensors, mobility and weapons, in real time, in order to adapt to the situation at hand.

The game also has online multiplayer support as a stretch goal, and additional information can be found on the ReVeN Kickstarter page.
