Only for select content at the moment

Ovi Store clients have now yet another reason to rejoice, as a brand-new feature is available for them on the software portal: re-downloads. What this means is that, in case one has downloaded one application, game or other content on a device and either upgrades the device or all data of the phone is lost, one can now download the content once again, based on the previous purchase.

This new feature comes to users due to the fact that all downloaded / purchased content is connected with the Ovi account one has, All About Symbian notes. While until now users were allowed to download content only once, upon the original purchase, and on a single device, now things have seen a great shift, it seems.

Even so, it should be noted that only select content is currently available for re-download and that there are other things that users should take note of too. For example, the new feature is only available with the Ovi Store client version 1.05 (271) or above, and AAS notes that one in three items can be re-downloaded, though changes in this state of facts should emerge shortly.

"Re-downloads and all of the caveats mentioned above are subject to change. This is an on-going process - several Ovi Store maintenance periods are scheduled over the next 24 hours, which may be relevant," the news site says, while also adding that they have tested the new feature on handsets like N97, E55, N86, 5800 and E75.

Those who are currently running an older version of Ovi Store client can switch quite easily to a newer flavor. All they need to do is highlight the Ovi Store widget/icon in the Applications menu and then select Remove. After that, users can head either to store.ovi.mobi on the Web to get a new version or to Download! on their devices.
