On what is now known as the “Night Before the Oscars” takes place an awards ceremony no one wants to be associated with: the Razzie Awards. Now at its 31st edition, it “celebrates” the worst in cinema for the past year.

And the worst for 2010 were undoubtedly “The Last Airbender” and “SATC 2,” which swept most of the sprayed-on statuettes in all the major categories, as a press release from the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation notes.

We were also telling you back when nominations were announced (also one day before those for the Academy Awards came out) that 2010 was the year of remakes, spinoffs and bad 3D.

As such, most of the movies that made the cut for the Razzies were to be found in either of these three categories, with some minor exceptions like “Killers,” “Valentine’s Day” or “The Bounty Hunter,” all deemed “toxic” rom-coms that should have never happened.

Also under the “it should have never happened” classification falls “The Last Airbender” by director M. Night Shyamalan, a 3D remake of the popular television animated series.

The Raspberry Foundation says the film turned out to be a “mess” that “fans of the TV show hated even more than critics” (as hard as that may be to believe), which explains why it won the most awards at last night’s shameful ceremony.

“The Last Airbender” won Worst Director for Shyamalan, Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor (Jackson Rathbone, who was also in “Twilight: Eclipse,” this edition’s most nominated title) and Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3D, a brand new category.

As fans probably already know, “The Last Airbender” was not shot in 3D, but converted in post-production – and it was such a poor job that it basically did not deserve to attach the “3D” label on the poster.

“SATC 2,” the sequel to the big screen adaptation of the once-critically acclaimed HBO television series, also scooped up plenty of awards, being the second biggest winner.

It won raspberry statuettes for Worst Sequel, Worst Screen Ensemble (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis) and Worst Actress (also for all 4 leading ladies).

Their male counterpart was Ashton Kutcher, who won Worst Actor for two of the movies he put out in 2010, “Killers” and “Valentine’s Day.”

Jessica Alba, at her fifth nomination this year, was named Worst Supporting Actress – and probably setting a new record in the process, since she won for all 4 movies she had coming out in 2010: “The Killer Inside Me,” “Machete,” “Little Fockers” and “Valentine’s Day.”
