Smack in the middle of awards season come the nominees for the one awards ceremony that all industry people avoid. The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has just announced the nominees for the 31st Annual Razzie Awards.

As Hollywood celebrates the best of the best in film, from producers to songwriters, actors and special effects guys, the Razzies “honor” the worst that the industry has to offer.

After looking through the “rubble” of 2010, the voting members of the Raspberry Foundation have come up with the names that are officially in the running for worst in cinema for the year that ended, a post on the official website notes.

Clearly, 2010 was the year of bad remakes, reboots and sequels – most of them done in unnecessary 3D, which meant higher gross for movie studios but actually a lower attendance in cinemas.

By far the strongest contender is box office hit “Eclipse,” the third installment in “The Twilight Saga,” which got nods in Worst Picture of the Year, Worst Actor, Worst Actress and Worst Screen Ensemble, among others.

Hot on its heels is “The Last Airbender,” which, the Foundation points out, fared just as poorly at the box office as it was received by critics. In other words, even fans hated it.

“In addition to Worst Director and Worst Picture, [Airbender] is up for Worst Remake, Worst Screenplay, Worst Screen Couple / Ensemble (the entire cast) and a brand-new Razzie category for 2010, Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D,” the Foundation writes.

In the Worst Picture category, we also find, besides “Eclipse” and “Airbender,” “Vampires Suck” (actually a parody of “Twilight”), the unnecessary sequel “SATC2” and the rom-com “The Bounty Hunter,” which was neither romantic nor funny.

“Other notable nominees include a trio of long established divas, Cher, Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand all vying to be named Worst Supporting Actress, ’tween bong enthusiast Miley Cyrus nominated for Worst Actress, and Jack Black, Gerard Butler and Ashton Kutcher up against Twilight’s Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson for Worst Actor,” the Foundation further notes.

The complete list of nominees at the Razzies 2011 is below. The winners will be announced on February 26 on what is now known as the “Night Before the Oscars.”
