Known for its high quality gaming peripherals, Razer has just announced the launch of the Razer Scarab pad, this hard mouse mat coming as the better performing sequel of the highly successful Destructor released about two years ago.

According to Razer, the improved performance is made possible by the use of the Fractal 2.0 surface coating that delivers better responsiveness and tracking precision, the pad being finely-tuned to offer gamers the right balance between speed and control.

First seen on the Destructor, the Razer Fractal technology uses crystalline coating for the peaks of the grained surface to differentiate against the darker troughs, a design decision that enables optical sensors to identify positions faster and with greater accuracy when compared to other mouse surfaces.

Furthermore, the rubber base of the Razer Scarab helps to even out minimal irregularities in the surface underneath and ensures the mat won't move out of place right in the middle of the battle.

“With this sequel, we focused on enhancing the Fractal surface coating so that gamers will improve their game even further. It’s all you need to win in life,” said Robert “RazerGuy” Krakoff, president of Razer USA.

“And in PC games of course. The Razer Scarab is for gamers who prefer hard surfaces, high performance areas, effortless swipes and absolute tracking,” continued the company's president.

In response to the these claims, Olga “Pachella” Pak, Counter-strike 1.6 world champion said, “Razer paid special attention to the needs of FPS gamers when developing this; improving accuracy and now the Scarab is an indispensable accessory to complement my high-dpi gaming mouse.”

As far as availability, is concerned, the Scarab can be ordered starting January 1st, Razer bundling this with a lightweight carrying case.

Pricing has been set at US $39.99 and EU €39.99, depending on which side of the pond you happen to live.
