You can become a pro musician if you aren't one already

Independent microphones aren't something many people buy, because headphones usually integrated the functionality in some way or other. Still, some professions or hobbies need a better than average ability to record sound.

That's where high-end digital microphones come in. Microphones like the new one released by Razer, bearing the name of Seirēn.

Pronounced Sigh-ren (like siren essentially), the new device is the sort of thing you can grasp with both hands and sing your heart out into.

Assuming you don't use it to record yourself playing an instrument or something. It's up to you to decide how you use it.

The specs of the Seirēn

The professional microphone uses a multi-pattern USB digital connection to transfer the sound captured by three custom-tuned 14 mm condenser capsules. The sounds can be recorded in four different recording pattern configurations.

The four recording patterns are Cardioid, Stereo, Bidirectional and Omnidirectional, all activated by rotating the main control knob.

It is this hardware design that makes the Seirēn suitable for professional singers and musicians. There is even a built-in headphone amplifier that allows for zero latency and real time accurate monitoring of recordings.

This makes it possible for users to record sounds exactly as they want them to be recorded. Otherwise, random noises, gusts of air and false notes could sneak in.

Add to that the ease of use and transportation (you can assemble or store it away pretty quickly) and you have a tool you can take along with you on a trip or move from your home to the work studio you attend.

Availability and pricing

The Razer Seirēn microphone should already be available for the price of $179.99 / €179.99. That's the price given by the company in its latest announcement. It seems exchange rates don't hold any bearing on the EU tag, unfortunately.

Accessories like a shock mount and pop filter should be found for sale alongside it. You'll only find the products available through the RazerStore though, so don't bother browsing normal retailers looking for it.

If you're a professional looking for sponsorship, you might want to refer to the Razer Sponsored Streamer Program.

"Platforms like YouTube and Twitch are a big part of how people experience their media today, and they shape how we interact with each other," says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. "Tuned for a professional-style setup and able to be assembled and transported quickly and easily, the Razer Seirēn is a microphone designed specifically for streamers and YouTubers."
