The company brought it on itself, so it figured it may as well generate some goodwill

Coupon codes have been used for a long time, to give lucky customers the chance to buy something at a discount.

A few days ago, a rogue coupon code was discovered at Razer's UK online store, simply by typing “1234” there.

Originally generated by a third-party to test the Razer online shopping cart, the coupon cut 90% off all company product bought with it.

Normally, this would lead to a public notice, maybe an apology, and the cancellation of all the orders.

Razer decided against it, honoring the thousands of orders instead, thus charming the eyelashes off everyone who put a request in.

"We want to do right by the community," said Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan in a Facebook post, even though the deal "will likely cost us an insane amount of losses."

The 90% discount won't be approved on every single item ordered, customers will be allowed to use the code to get a single copy of each product they bought.

Backorders mean the shipments could take months though.
