17-inch machines spare no expense and don't expect you to either

If anyone thought they could do with a nice, powerful gaming laptop for the holidays, Razer has just what they need, namely the Blade.

The Blade notebook is about to go up for pre-order, according to an interview with Kotaku.

This is one of those big, strong, mighty machines that only a small number of people across the world will be able to get their hands on.

The reason, of course, is the price of $2,799.99, which translates into 2,088 Euro.

It shouldn't take more than a few days for pre-orders to be open, so prospective buyers should get in line.

Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan gave a very peculiar description of what actually lies at the source of the Blade's concept.

He described a time when he was sent on survival training in a tropical jungle and had only essential gear, especially a KA-BAR combat knife.

Said knife was simple, minimalistic, used for everything and basically one of the favorite pieces of equipment the CEO had ever used.

Min-Liang Tan said that the Blade notebook was the company's attempt to bring a laptop to life “in the spirit of the knife.”

Obviously, he doesn't mean the minimalistic nature, but its ability to do a lot of things and secure a special part in owners' hearts.

That said, the Razer Blade is a 17-inch beast with an Intel Core i7-2640M CPU, 8GB DDR3 and 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GT555M discrete graphics (Optimus included).

The display has touch support and the laptop even uses a 256 GB SSD (solid state drive) instead of a 320 GB hard disk drive (HDD).

Furthermore, there is a special touchscreen to the side of the backlit keyboard, which works as a shortcut panel and secondary display (it even has multitouch gesture support). Finally, ten user-programmable buttons exist right above it.
