Great news for Rayman fans, as Ubisoft has confirmed that the impressive Rayman Origins title will be making its way onto some new platforms at the beginning of this year, including the PlayStation Vita and the PC.

Rayman Origins arrived late last year as an attempt at rebooting the iconic franchise from Ubisoft. It appeared originally for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, while a 3DS version was confirmed for release this year.

Now, the French company has confirmed that Rayman Origins is getting ready for a debut on two other platforms in 2012, including the PlayStation Vita and PC.

First up chronologically is the Vita edition, which is out on February 14, a few days before the actual release of Sony’s new handheld device.

This version of the game will make use of the Vita’s touchscreen, allowing owners to pinch and zoom in on the action that’s on the screen. This allows them to admire the high quality visuals of the device, while helping to spot hidden objects and secrets.

What’s more, there’s also a Ghost mechanic, which means players will be able to go up against their friends’ ghosts if they’ve already completed that specific level.

On March 30, Rayman Origins is also going to appear on the PC platform, both through digital distribution services, like Steam, as well as in retail stores. Ubisoft has also confirmed that the retail version won’t have its notorious digital rights management (DRM) software, so there won’t be any problems with playing it, unlike the recent Anno 2070.

The Nintendo 3DS version of Rayman Origins is also scheduled to appear at the end of March, with North American customers being able to get it on March 20, while European ones get their hands on it on March 30.

Expect some more details and gameplay footage from these new editions of Rayman Origins as we approach their release dates.
