NFC was showcased in a leaked trailer, but Ubisoft is still experimenting with it

Rayman Legends, the upcoming game from Ubisoft for the Wii U, might not feature the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that was first showcased in a leaked trailer for the game earlier this year.

Rayman Legends is set to deliver a new puzzle platforming experience on the Wii U in the same vein as Rayman Origins last year.

Fans of the series no doubt remember that Legends was first leaked to the world through a special trailer that showed off a special support for NFC, just like Activision's Skylanders franchise.

Now, Ubisoft's Michel Ancel, the creative director of the game, has said that the teaser was just an experiment and that he can't confirm what type of tech will be in Rayman Legends.

"We didn't announce this officially and it was more the kind of experiment we do when working on new hardware like the Wii U," he told ONM.

"We had prototypes of this and we believe that having real objects manipulating gameplay could be quite innovative. But again, this was a prototype and we won't discuss it until it's ready to demonstrate its full potential," he said.

Rayman Legends is out at the beginning of 2013 for the Wii U, but a demo is already live on the console's eShop.
