Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy were released as open source projects a few days ago, but the source code for both games has disappeared shortly after. The mystery has been solved by former Raven Software developer.

Everyone was happy to see that Activision released Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy as open source projects, but the source code was pulled from SourceForge.

“If you copied the code straight out before last night (as I see in the OpenJK repository) instead of forking, you'll need to remove the bink stuff and feelit libs to avoid legal issues. We had to struggle with Git last night to remove evidence of their existence,” stated a former Raven Software developer (thanks to Reddit for the information).

Basically, they included some proprietary technology (Bink, used mostly for movie encoding) and they had to pull it. When the source code will be cleansed, it will most likely be uploaded again.

Update: Rich Bowen, community manager at SourceForge, has said that the projects have been removed, at the request of the developers at Raven Software (check the comments).
