Insomniac Games has revealed some new details about its upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault game (or Ratchet & Clank: Qforce, as it’s known in Europe), including the fact that the game also has a special tower defense mechanic.

The Ratchet & Clank franchise has been around for quite some time, with Insomniac Games delivering intense experiences on platforms like the PS2, PSP, or PS3.

With Full Frontal Assault, the franchise is going back to its roots, after the more offbeat All4One installment.

We already heard a few details earlier this year and now Insomniac has delivered a few more tidbits of information, chief among which being the fact that the game has a special tower defense element, besides the traditional Ratchet & Clank ones seen in previous games.

“Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault heads back to the classic camera, weapons and third-person Ratchet gameplay that the series is known for, while adding a new tower defense element that will have you building and defending a base against invasions using your ultimate Ratchet & Clank arsenal,” Insomniac said.

“This new twist, added to the classic Ratchet gameplay, brings a whole new level of strategy and decision-making to Full Frontal Assault. You’ll want to make sure your Hoverboots are laced up and ready as you race to defeat your enemy while keeping your base secure.”

According to the developer, the new villain in Full Frontal Assault is targeting the gullible Captain Qwark and players will have to control Ratchet, Clank, or Qwark and fight against the enemies in the tower defense mode.

“In Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, our heroes face a new nemesis – one who has a nasty surprise planned for Captain Qwark. You’ll be able to choose between playing as Ratchet, Clank, or Captain Qwark, and confront an alien army across five levels set on three different planets. The game allows you and a friend to play together with either split-screen or online cooperative gameplay.”

Plenty of other important things are included in the game, according to Insomniac, so expect to hear more about its online mode, unlockable content, and much more.
