There are a few kinks to sort out, but the direction of the concept is good

Canon's EOS 5D Mark II camera is a fairly popular photo and video capture device, as photographer David hunt will attest, but that isn't what he shows in his new video.

Then again, that isn't totally true. The camera is fully present in his video. Nevertheless, the focus of said video is not it per se, but something in its battery grip.

Long story short, the man managed to combine a Raspberry Pi mini PC with the hardware of the camera.

Running a Perl script, the small credit card-sized device constantly checks to see if the camera has any new photos. If it finds any, it transfers them over the Internet (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) to an iPad's Shutterswitch app.

Not everything works as it should yet, of course, but triggering via the shutter release port does, enabling photos to be taken or waking the camera from sleep.
