Users can already purchase the new case

Raspberry Pi 2 now has an official case that is built by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and distributed on all the major channels.

Ever since the first Raspberry Pi hit the market, one of the main problems was to get a proper case for it. In fact, in the first few months it was impossible until the Chinese market caught on and started to churn out cases on eBay. And it was fine for a while, but users have wanted a proper case for so long that they even forgot to hope for one. Now the competition will start to get much fiercer with an official case out for sale.

If you take a look on eBay and search for cases, you will find that there are probably dozens of models. Most of them are of really poor design and the few that are OK have sell for high prices. Having an official case available for purchase, along with the Raspberry Pi, will make things a lot easier.

The official Raspberry Pi 2 is more than just function

The guys at the Raspberry Pi Foundation didn't just settle with a regular case. It would have been easy to make a simple case, with just the right number of holes, and some cheap plastic, but they decided they also wanted quality and something to make it recognizable.

"It’s not just plastic. It’s about design, love, attention to detail, accuracy, iteration and overall damn hard work! We think you’ll love this new case as much as we do. It’s functional, it’s very good looking, and you can pick one up from our own Swag Store, element14, or RS Electronics. (If you’re outside the UK, their local representatives – MCM Electronics, Newark and Allied in the USA and some other locations – also have them available; and we expect to see the cases appearing in other partners’ stores soon)," wrote Gordon Hollingworth, the director of Software.

The end product is a really beautiful case that will make the Raspberry Pi really stand out in any setting.
