Wei Wei and Ming Ming are now separated from their parents and under intensive care

Just recently, two tiger cubs born in captivity at the Guiyang Forest Wildlife Zoo in China developed serious health issues.

To make matters even worse, 18 of their brothers and sisters have already died shortly after birth.

In an attempt to provide them with a fighting chance at survival, zoo keepers separated Ming Ming and Wei Wei from their parents and placed them under intensive care.

Given the fact that South China tigers are an endangered species, it is no wonder that considerable efforts are made to rescue these cubs.

However, it is quite likely that their health issues were caused precisely by the fact that so few representatives of this species are still alive in captivity.

More precisely, it seems that Ming Ming and Wei Wei were born as a result of inbreeding, and therefore, are bound to display various health issues.
