Earlier this month, the Cincinnati Zoo in the United States welcomed an adorable Indian rhino calf. The baby rhino is a girl, and keepers say that it has bonded very well with its mom.

According to Zoo Borns, the rhino calf, a photo of which is available above, was born to mother Tashi and dad Jimmy. Interestingly enough, keepers at Cincinnati Zoo claim Jimmy is dead since 2004.

Thus, the only reason why it managed to start a family with Tashi is because its seed was kept in a special tank in subfreezing temperatures for about a decade before being used to artificially inseminate the calf's mom.

“It is deeply heartening to know that the Cincinnati Zoo's beloved male Indian Rhino Jimmy will live on through this calf,” Dr. Monica Stoops commented on the birth of Tashi's calf.

On the day of its birth, the baby rhino weighed about 144 pounds (a little over 65 kilograms). Still, its mom is doing a very good job looking after it, and keepers expect it will not be long until it gets considerably plumper.

As a means to show their gratitude to Dr. Stoops, who helped impregnate Tashi and deliver its offspring, caretakers at Cincinnati Zoo have agreed to name the baby Indian rhino Monica.
