It has a refresh rate of up to 60 Hz at 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution

Up to the beginning of this year, and even the end of the first quarter, the 4K resolution wasn't really found on anything with a screen smaller than 40 inches, but now even 28-inch monitors are getting UHD support.

The Iiyama ProLite B2888UHSU-B1 monitor is the latest example of this, or will be once it finally begins to sell, whenever that will be.

You see, the product is not actually up for sale. Instead, it has only been put up for pre-order, and only on Overclockers UK from what anyone can tell. Which is odd because Iiyama is a Japanese company, not one from the United Kingdom.

Not that the new product is any less odd. As we said, it manages to cram the 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution in a much smaller form factor than usual, specifically 28 inches.

All the while, the brightness is of 300 cd/m2, which is owed to the TN panel. Iiyama could have used an IPS screen, which would have traded off some brightness and response time for viewing angles, but that didn't happen.

Speaking of which, the viewing angles aren't known, but the response time (GTG) is quite remarkable, at 1 ms.

Normally, 5 ms is considered decent, while 8 ms or more is considered slow. To have 1 ms response time means that even the fastest-paced games will let you react properly to sudden shots or whatever else.

On that note, the contrast ratio is of 1,000:1 (this one is standard) and the backlight relies on LED technology (light emitting diodes).

The only aspect of the new monitor that is, shall we say, conditional is the refresh rate. It's high enough at normal resolution, but 4K gets tricky.

If you connect the Iiyama ProLite B2888UHSU-B1 to a PC via one of the two DisplayPorts, the refresh rate is of 60 Hz at 3840 x 2160 pixels. However, if you use an HDMI port, you're limited to 30 Hz, which is just barely enough for films and a reasonably smooth gaming experience.

Finally, Iiyama's 28-inch ProLite B2888UHSU-B1 display boasts built-in speakers and a Blue Light Reducer (makes the screen easier on the eyes).

Iiyama's ProLite B2888UHSU-B1 4K UHD monitor is for pre-order at a price of £499.99, which corresponds to $842 and €617, more or less. Shipments should begin at some point in early July. Gamers are the ones most likely to benefit from its purchase.
