It's been a while since rappers took the top spots in the album charts in the United States, but the long period of waiting was worth it after all. This week, the number two positions in the album charts went to rappers The Game and Akon, both albums flying off the shelves at an amazing speed.
But The Game is not that thrilled about the numbers. He was hoping his sophomore LP, 'Doctor's Advocate' would do far better than his first album 'The Documentary' and he was bold enough as to hope for it to sell up to 1 million copies in its first week.
Unfortunately, 'Doctor's Advocate' sold only 358,000 copies (200,000 items less than his previous material), an impressive amount, but not for the rapper who hoped for more. However, it did guarantee him the number one spot in the charts and that's something not everyone can brag of.
Akon was close on The Game's lead, with 'Konvicted', which sold an estimated 284,000 copies in a week since its release. With him, destiny was much kinder, as the album sold almost a dozen times better than his previous one, 'Trouble'. It is said that 'Konvicted' turned out to be such a great hit with the public mainly because it included collaborations with Snoop Dogg ('I Wanna Love You') and Eminem ('Smack That'), which both ended at the number two spot in The Hot 100 top.
Last week's former number one, the multi-artists hits compilation, 'Now, That's What I Call Music 23', fell to number three, with 194,000 items sold in its second week. The chart is rounded up by +44 (founded from two thirds of Blink 182) with their debut album 'When Your Heart Stops Beating', which sold in its opening week in 66,000 copies.
