Realmac has updated RapidWeaver, its website creation tool and flagship app for Mac OS X. Version 4.2.3 is a maintenance update adding numerous fixes for linking to blog posts and assets, fixes for MobileMe publishing, refinements in memory usage, and more.

“Whilst we've been hard at work on RapidWeaver 4.2.3 fixing a few issues that users have been encountering, a copy of this month's MacFormat dropped through the letterbox at Realmac HQ,” the folks at Realmac say in a blog post. “In the June 2009 edition of the magazine (available now at a newsagent near you) there's a group test of OS X website creation apps. RapidWeaver was up against stiff competition in a test of 6 applications, but we were super-excited to discover that MacFormat crowned RapidWeaver the group test winner...”

“We're absolutely thrilled to see RapidWeaver take the honours in a large group test, and to keep people weaving even more rapidly, we're also releasing RapidWeaver 4.2.3 today – an update that we strongly encourage all RapidWeaver 4.2.2 users to download,” Realmac shares. “This update fixes a number of issues, including linking to blog posts and assets, as well as significant improvements in memory usage when saving files.”

Founded in November 2002, Realmac Software is focused on developing useful, easy-to-use programs for Mac OS X. RapidWeaver, the flagship app of the company, was released in June 2004. According to its makers, it continues to receive excellent reviews to this day. The program allows anyone to instantly publish photos, movies and blogs online, since no knowledge of complex codes is required, according to the developers. However, while one doesn't need to be aware of how XHTML or CSS work in order to get started with RapidWeaver, code-savvy users do have the ability to place HTML, PHP, or CSS codes throughout the application.

The latest version of RapidWeaver is a free upgrade for registered users of RapidWeaver 3.6 or higher. One user license goes for US$79, while those employing RapidWeaver 3.5, or earlier, can benefit from an upgrade offer that has them pay just $30 in order to get the latest version. RapidWeaver 4 requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
